The finishing line may be in sight for our IDOLS Top 10, but 9 of themwill not reach it. There’s only space for 1 Idol at the top! The elimination process kicked off Monday night on M-Net (DStv Channel101/102). Africa voted, and decided that Christine (Kenya) didn’t make the grade. The judges dished up their verdicts in video inserts at the start ofthe show, and found it tough to choose between Christine and Cynthia as the weakest contestants from the first Spectacular.
Ultimately, they unanimously decided that Cynthia was their pick to leave on the night –but Africa still had to vote.Host Lebo Mzimbi dimmed the lights and cued the infamous IDOLS moodmusic. He summoned Eric first, but sent him to the ‘safe’ side of thestage immediately. Ammara and Trinah followed quickly.Faycal must have been hoping for a similarly quick trip, but had towait as he was told he was part of the bottom 3.
Wild Card Mkhululi wassent straight into the Top 9, and Adiona followed after a dramaticpause. Not so lucky was Christine, who was sent to join Faycal. Lebocalled Cynthia and Nicollette up next, sending Cynthia to safety butasking Nicollette to stay as the third member of the bottom 3.Lebo made Faycal, Christine and Nicollette sweat for a bit, butultimately Christine was sent packing. That leaves 9 contestants in with a shot at the ultimate prize of US$80 000 and a recording deal through Sony BMG.
They will battle it outat next week’s second Spectacular show, broadcast on M-Net (DStvChannel 101/102) on June 8. After the show is screened on Sunday,Africa has the power to choose who stays in the competition so get yourvote in!You can vote via SMS,by calling your contestant’s number (whichappears on screen during the show), or online at www.mnetafrica.com/idols.
