Eddie Zondi presents his second Metro FM show the Romantic Repertoire on Sundays between 15:00 and 18:00. This show has a big following and other Metro FM DJs have cited it as a favourite. Outside of Metro, Eddie has released four compilation CDs titled Zondi’s Romantic Ballads. Eddie has proven without a doubt that there are many ways to achieve a dream. No dream is set in a definite path. All it takes is a little patience, perseverance and determination to reach your goal.
Born in Soweto. Eddie later moved to Durban where he got to meet late then-Radio Zulu legend Cyril Mchunu known to his devoted listeners as Kansas City. An acquaintance at the station allowed him access to the studios, so he became a regular.
Later he went to study Speech and Drama at FUBA in Johannesburg. While he enjoyed this, he still yearned for radio, so a year later he enrolled at the Wits University School of Broadcasting. Here he went through a six month course on radio with Koos Radebe, Metro FM’s first station Manager as one of his lecturers.
Through an inspired motivational talk, Eddie landed time on Metro FM as a weekend “on the field” sports presenter for the station.
Zondi’s dream came true in 1999 when he was offered the 03:00 to 06:00 slot which he still has and truly loves. He has a throng of morning people who appreciate what he does. He values them and acknowledges that in life we have to be consistent in order to keep our standards high. He doesn’t deny that it gets difficult to work at that time, because there are times when he, like any regular guy, would like to watch his sport late at night. The twist for him is waking up after a few hours’ sleep in order to satisfy his listeners.
